The Rogues V.0
Album number five by The Rogues is unique in their lineup.
Lots of new music by The Rogues and other composers, plus
creative instrumentation make for their most exciting and
broad spectrum recording yet. Playing quality is foremost,
yet it still has the endearing humor that fans enjoy in a
Rogues album. New to Celtic music or not, this is definitely
one that will appeal to everyone. Enjoy.

- Gypsy
John MacKenzie's Fancy - J.A. Barrie (arr. The Rogues)
This tune presents Leandra La
Greca, an accomplished Gypsy Flamenco dancer who
performs with Bailes Ferrer, a Gypsy dance group
in Florida, as well as freelance performance and
instruction. Gypsy Flamenco is a more percussive
style of dance than classical Flamenco, and also
adds the excitement of watching a Gypsy dancer perform.
- Bonny Portmore
Trad. - (arr. R. Wothke & B. Thomas)
We are joined by guest artist
and friend Brian Thomas, 2nd horn in the Houston
Symphony. Of all the brass instruments the horn is
the most blending, which allows this combination
to work so well. Thanks Sarita and Tom for suggesting
this beautiful tune. MP3

- Yo Quiero Jamie
The Wassat Jig - Jimmy Mitchell
Calleach and Dudain - Trad. (arr. The Rogues)
The Wassat Jig got its name
when Jimmy heard his tune being played on a tape
recorder and asked, "What's that?" The
tune is played on a shuttle pipe. Thanks to Vicki
Hamilton for the use of the pipes.
- A Shrimp for Barbie
Bouncing Off the Clouds - B. Lamond
Demtel Schizophrenia Kit - I. Lyons
1st Hype Cowboy Division - M. Blair
Some of our favorite tunes from
Down Under.
- The Rose of Sharon
(Sharon's Tune) - Randy Wothke
This is the first tune Randy
wrote that he thought was pretty enough to name after
his wife. The tune proved extremely difficult to
perform, as the tuning of the tempered scale of today
clashes with the untempered tuning of the bagpipe.
The consequence is many minutes of tuning; the keyboard
to match the lowest note on the bagpipes, followed
by tuning all of the other notes on the bagpipe to
the keyboard. MP3

- Willie and the Brain
Willie Cumming's Rant - D.C. Mather
Bryan Blaylock - R. Kean
The first tune is a traditional
type of reel, followed by a new tune from our friend
Richard Kean. For you traditionalists, the first
tune in this set is the only one you'll get, so enjoy.
- Dorothy Baird
Skye Boat Song - Trad.
Dorothy Baird - Lars Sloan
Written in memory of the wife
of a close friend, Mr. Clayton Baird.
- Groovy Scooby - Randy
Wothke
Another fun mix of bagpipes and
rock and roll. This tune got its name from the 70s
rock style of which it is reminiscent. MP3

- Hubba Bubba
Hubba Bubba - J. Hudgins (arr. The Rogues)
Seamus and the Roundabout - J. Hudgins (arr. The
Rogues)
Meagan's View from Dunfion - J. Hudgins
Three tunes by our bagpipe supplier,
Jim Hudgins, who runs Aberdeen Bagpipe Supply back
home in Houston, Texas.
- A Rogue Less Traveled -
Randy Wothke
Randy wrote this tune while visiting
his in-laws. Thanks Ron and Barbara. This tune also
incorporates the shuttle pipes, but with the drones
shut off.
- Cullen Anderson -
Lars Sloan
This is a revised version of
one of our older tunes which was written for Lars'
nephew and the lyrics are from his father, Reinhart
Sloan. Great job Dad! Many thanks to Emily Vacek,
for her incredible voice and for putting up with
us yahoos during recording. Also, many thanks to
Wolf Loescher for the smokin' bazouki, who, by the
way, is a yahoo himself.
