  1. Pressed for Time
Pressed for Time - Gordon Duncan
    Good Drying - R.S. MacDonald
Written by one of their piping heroes, Gordon Duncan, "Pressed for Time" was the first tune E.J. and Jeremy worked on together. The title aptly describes the band's push to take it to the next level. MP3 sample

  2. The Warrior's Salute
The Warrior's Salute - Jeremy Freeman, E.J. Jones
    Vindaloo Willie - Jeremy Freeman
That's Me in the Caravan - E.J. Jones

  3. Ronds
    Traditional
The Ronds are called Dans Plinn and Rond Loudia. These are two types of dance tunes with similar structure played on the Binou Braz (Highland Bagpipe) and the Bombarde, a type of feral oboe that was caught for me by the Clan MacRogue. The slow intro is a call to the dance which then picks up as the dancers link arms.

  4. When Diana Fell
    Nelson Stewart (SOCAN)
Written for the one who almost caught me. lyrics MP3 sample

  5. Back to the Faire
    Conscription Reel - E.J. Jones
The Wild Flower - E.J. Jones
    Diane Tobola - E.J. Jones

  6. An Dro
An Dro (The Turn) is a style of Breton dance that involves the dancers linking pinkies and swinging their arms. It can also be used for a Kas ah Barh which is a kind of slam-polka. The Binou Coz (Old Bagpipe) that comes in at the intro and the last time through the tune is another Breton instrument that redefines the word "skirl."

  7. Bagpipes on Bourbon Street
Dr. McPhail's Reel - Andrew Bain
The Pie Chase - Jeremy Freeman
  1. Conception
    Jeremy Freeman
A jam session at St. Thomas with students Jason, Zack, and Nick led to this deviation from the traditional style of pipe music. MP3 sample

  2. Kopa-Suite
    Kopa-Cabo-Nitza - E.J. Jones
    Randy's Bridge - E.J. Jones
Slips in Time - E.J. Jones
    Breakroom Jig - E.J. Jones
This piece starts in 11/8 time as if it were a Bulgarian Kopanitza, but the composer, not being from Bulgaria, nor having any idea what a Kopanitza sounds like, writes a change into 7/8, then 5/8, and then feels guilty for having everyone go to all this trouble, so he changes the meter to 9/8, but that's not good enough somehow, so he then resolves to a standard 6/8 jig...whew...the end.

  3. Maren's Jig
    Randy Wothke
Written for my Goddaughter, Maren Mueller, with help from her Mother, Lauren Crowe-Mueller, on the Irish hard shoes. MP3 sample

  4. Bobby Cuthbertson
Slow Air - Jeremy Freeman, E.J. Jones
Bobby Cuthbertson - P.M. John Wilson
Bobby Cuthbertson Jig - E.J. Jones
Named after the famous Highland dancer from the early 1900s, "Bobby Cuthbertson" is a standard hornpipe E.J. and Jeremy learned when wee boys at St. Thomas. It usually accompanies Highland dancers during the foot-flying Sailor's Hornpipe, and as E.J. discovered, makes for a sweet jig.

  5. Bonny Portmore
    Traditional
Once E.J. began performing this tune with us on the flute, people have been requesting the new version on an album, so here it is.

Performed by :

Randy Wothke
Bodhran, Scottish snare drum, djembe, drums, percussion, keyboard, vocals

E.J. Jones
Highland bagpipe, border pipe, small pipe, flute, bombarde, uillean pipe, vocals

Jeremy Freeman
Highland bagpipe, deger pipe

Nelson Stewart

This album is dedicated to the memory of our good friend, Jeff "Mayhem" Thompson. The powerful tune, "The Warrior's Salute," is named in his honor. We'd like to thank everybody in the Rogues family for being so supportive through the good times and the bad... without you, we are dust. We'd also like to thank all of our friends and family for the way they keep the faith, keep us sane, and keep us coming home. Likewise, meeting and befriending Frank Thompson and all of Mayhem's family has been the brightest part of a dark year. Finally, we'd like to thank Mayhem for showing us that heroes do, indeed, walk the Earth.

The Rogues would like to thank Al Cofrin, Klaus Weiland, Richard Kean, Jason Evert, Nick LaGrasta, Zack Goodrick, and Steve Ashley for their musical and creative contributions to this album. We would also like to thank Jack Westmoreland for the use of his many percussion instruments and Jeff Jack for use of the small pipes. Thanks also to Andy Bradley, Tyson Sheth, and the SugarHill recording studios, as well as Heritage Studios in Burlington, Ontario.

Jeremy and E.J. would like to thank Mike Cusack, their piping instructor.

Special thanks to Sharon, Lauren, Leisa and Linda for putting up with us while making this album and keeping us sane through all the late hours. And of course, thanks to Clarence the studio cat for assisting us on his fourth Rogues album.

Recorded in March, April and May 2005 at Sugarhill Recording Studios in Houston, TX and Heritage Studios in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Mixed and mastered at Sugar Hill Recording Studios.
