The Rogues at the Odessa Celtic Concert and Northwest Pacific Scottish Games

On July 19th the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center in Midland, TX was home to the first Rogues show ever in west Texas.  The theater was beautiful, a very new facility located between Midland and Odessa, and a theater that the band hopes to return to again in the future.  The crowd was very appreciative, with dancing in the aisles from young and old alike.

Thanks to Roy Raney for bringing us in to perform, and also his wife Shelley and the other volunteers for their hospitality with the awesome pre-show refreshments and accommodations.  We are looking forward to performing in west Texas again at the Midland Scottish-Irish Faire in March of 2015, and so hope to see more of our Texas/Oklahoma friends there.

The performers were Jimmy Mitchell, Bryan Blaylock, Randy Wothke and newcomer Jesse Bills on bagpipes as well.  Jesse is doing all of the Washington weekends with the band and will also be appearing with us at the Sherwood Celtic Music Festival September 26-27, at the site of the Sherwood Forest Faire, in McDade, TX. We invite you to come out and help support Texas Celtic music and festivals.  And if you haven't been to the Sherwood Forest Faire do yourself a favor and visit next year.  The owners and staff have put together quite a nice medieval festival just outside of Austin.

The morning after the Odessa Celtic Concert Randy and Jesse hit the road in the RV up to Washington state for the Northwest Pacific Scottish Games and the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Festival.  This was our first time to appear at the Scottish Games in Enumclaw, with a spectacular view of Mt. Rainier to boot.  Kay Campbell (Kristen Jensen) flew in Friday night to do all the Washington gigs with us on fiddle.  The Scottish games were her first official gig with The Rogues and Kay and the band were well-received.  We shared the stage with the Wicked Tinkers both days and jammed with them a little on Sunday.  They have a great show and hanging with them in the pub was a blast.  Thanks to Kate Freeburg and the Pacific Northwest Scottish Games for bringing us up for the first time, and we hope to make this a regular event in the future.  If you've never been to Washington state you don't know what you're missing.  The scenery is outstanding and with these two great events in late July and August there's no better time.
The Rogues are currently playing at the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Festival from August 2nd - 17th.    Hope to see you there!

Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games - July 26-27

The Rogues will be returning to Washington state for the first time since 2007 to perform at the 68th annual Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games and Clan Gathering on July 26-27.  We believe this is the longest-running continuous Scottish games in the country.  Joined for the first time officially by Kristen Jensen on fiddle they are looking forward to the opportunity to make new friends and fans.  That's right folks, a female Rogue... Kristen is multi-talented playing violin, piano, percussion, and is an expert hula-hooper and fire-hooper.  We hope to be able to work hooping into the show soon, so everyone ask her very politely. ;)  The band will have 3 shows on Saturday and Sunday on the South Stage alternating with the Wicked Tinkers, as well as a performance for the Evening Ceilidh starting at 6:30, also on the South Stage.  For more information about the games here's the link:  http://www.sshga.org/home.htm

If you can't attend the Scottish games then catch the band at the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire the following three weekends, from August 2-17.  The Rogues performed at this show the first time in 2007 and have been trying to get back ever since.  We can attest that if you choose to make a road trip to Washington you won't regret it.  The scenery is absolutely incredible.  For more information on the renaissance festival go to:  http://www.washingtonfaire.com/  We hope to see you in Washington! We'll have our stages and show times for this festival posted shortly.

Odessa Celtic Concert Official Commercial

Ohio Scottish Festival Recap

The Rogues received a great reception at the Ohio Scottish Festival in Wellington, Ohio on June 28th. It's been 9 or 10 years since the band last performed there, so it was great seeing familiar faces again.

The Rogues performed 3 official shows, and then again at the after party.  The weather was beautiful, the sound man, Paul, was excellent and we had am awesome time performing.  The pipers were Jimmy MItchell and Jesse Bills, with drummers Mark Sullivan and Randy Wothke.

Thanks to Theresa Mihalic Mosher for bringing the band back, and Chrissy Mihalic for the dancing contributions.   Special thanks to Pam and Gene Hoskins, who drove from West Virginia and assisted with the sales table, as well as Janice Sullivan for helping with the sales.  The after party was the most fun performance of the day, and the best part is that it's open to anyone.  And the available Twisted Kilt ale didn't hurt either.

The Games also has a week-long Scottish arts camp that is based in nearby Oberlin, the home of Oberlin College.  What a beautiful campus that is, and also boasts the Carnegie Library, donated by Andrew Carnegie in 1908.  It would definitely be worth the trip for anyone within driving distance to attend the Ohio Scottish Games next year.

Look for The Rogues next at the Odessa Celtic Concert in Odessa, TX on July 19th, and the next 4 weeks after that the band will be in Washington state for the Pacific Northwest Scottish Festival and the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire
