McGonigel's Mucky Duck Recap

Saturday, June 21, 2014

The Rogues once again rocked McGonigel's Mucky Duck in Houston on May 15.  What a great night!  It's been years since the band has played an evening show at The  Duck.  Thanks to everyone who came out to support the band and have a good time.  The performers were Jimmy, Doug Frobese, Bryan and Randy, and we were joined on a few numbers by violinist Kristen Jensen from Houston, who will be joining the roster beginning in July when we head to Washington state.  She is classically-trained and proficient in Celtic fiddle and gypsy style music which she performs with Gypsy Dance Theater in Houston, as well as being a violin instructor.  We were also joined briefly on stage by Paul Rendon, one of the original drummers from 1994 when we were still called the Scottish Rogues, and a former drumming student of Randy's, Heath Behmer, who happened to be at the show and was asked to join in on djembe for a number or two.

This was also our goodbye party to good friends, Paul and Ros Shepherd, who are moving to Spain soon.  Ros and Paul have been HUGE supporters of Celtic and Scottish music in Houston for years, and their home is affectionately called "the house for wayward musicians."  Every year they throw a  hell of a Hogmanay party for new year's eve that ends with a parade around the neighborhood at midnight.  Good stuff and good memories!  The band hopes to be able to visit them in Spain as part of a tour in the near future and lead the parade there as well.

We'd like to thank Missy Best for holding down the sales table for us, and of course McGonigel's Mucky Duck for having us back.  A great time was had by all and we look forward to doing it again in the near future.
